Lessons taught mostly in French in Paris at the Studio de Piano Gobelins:
Liszt's Jeux d'eau a la villa d'Este where emphasis on rhythmic pulse empowers a virtuosic touch,
the ethereal, deeply prayer-like atmosphere of the Franck Prelude, Chorale & Fugue is elevated by finding an effective, suspended balance point for the elbow and thumb.
A lesson on the other water fountain music: Ravel's famous Jeux d'eau, where opening the ear, and making a subtle change in the natural curve of the finger allowed this sound to blossom, to become fully even and colorful.
A lesson on the Rachmaninoff third concerto, 1st movement, where the thumb and the arm are highlighted in their unified relationship, and the magnificent sound of the cadenza is brought to full fruition by stabilizing the wrist without rigidifying it. The wrist must be in balance.
A lesson on a Chopin waltz and a polonaise, where the required touch was shown to be not overly superficial even though it's Chopin - light and French in its color. There must be a depth to that color, and a singing quality to the melodic lines.
Another lesson on a Chopin waltz where the inflection of the left hand was choreographed for specific waltz-like results.
A lesson on the Grieg lyric piece, "In Spring", where we developed tempo through a change in touch that led to the feeling of a true appassionato.
A lesson on the F minor Nocturne of Chopin, where we eliminated some superfluous movements in the left hand to create a trance-like, hypnotic melodic development with a truly whispering accompaniment.
