A Pianist
Has anyone run across this piano method by William Mason, first published in 1889? It's based on a set of two-finger exercises that he learned from Liszt. The basic form of the exercise is a scale with repeated notes like "CD-DE-EF, etc." using a selected finger pair only ("12-12-12" "23-23-23", etc.). It seems that, without stating it as such, these exercises are designed to induce the "walking on the keyboard" technique that Alan discusses in the first few chapters of his book. There's a drawing of Dr. Mason at the beginning of the "Touch and Technic" book illustrating proper hand position and danged if it doesn't look like a properly arched hand!
Any thoughts?
