Using The DVD So Far Amazing!!!

Hi Alan I have had the joy of listening and practising my latest purchase of "The Craft of Piano Playing" featuring yourself. I wanted to let you know that it has already in a very short time of practice had a tremendous affect on my playing. I feel more released and not so heavy as I was, and have started to develop a speed I would normally think was not possible. I am delighted by your mannerisms and the way you put the information across it is entertaining and presents such an ease to learn from. I have highly recommended this to my pupils and all my piano friends. I am also very interested to know if you have any more products in the pipeline, for instance one on interpretation and perhaps more technical stuff on chromatic work. Especially on how to practice - like what to work on on a daily basis, I know there are thousands of books and Cds out there on this subject. I just feel you will bring another dimension to it. "how to practice" What to spend your precious time on. I do spend alot of time doing scales - arpeggios etc - and other general work that the masters advocate. pieces. Being a composer of music to film - I would so enjoy a DVD (by You) on specific harmony structures like what Ravel - Stravinsky uses - not to play there pieces but to extract interesting chord harmonal information showing how it was composed.. OK I am waffling now. Just very inspired by your person and your approach. Thank you again for putting such a great piece of helpful and inspiring work together it has certainly paid off in me - and is very much appreciated. Thank you Anthony Wade (composer) AKA Dr Voice

Thanks so much! I wish indeed that I could do videos on all the things you mention! Unfortunately, these ideas take a long time to develop, gel and mature - at the moment I can promise nothing except a second book, (almost finished), and an eventual film filling in some of the holes from my first book and adding some new material from the second. I also plan a kiddies' video where I show how to apply these ideas to beginning repertoire. This to me would fill an important need - but I have no time line as of yet! Anyway thanks for the push, it's always appreciated... AFF

Alan - I totally agree with Doc's assessment. I'm still working through the DVD but so far its been very helpful and I'm looking forward to it hopefully improving my playing. I'm working through some injury issues at the moment but I'm also optimistic that I will be able to avoid this in the future as a result of your recommendations. Just one suggestion - I really enjoyed some of the pieces you played in your demonstrations (well the excerpts of them anyway). Subtitles identifying these would be great because I didn't recognize some of them. I'd like to track down a recording. Thanks for producing a great product ! Dave

Thanks for the subtitle suggestion, when we do another edition of the DVD I will make a note to add that! By the way, the entire list of pieces played can be found in the CLOSING CREDITS of the film. Perhaps by process of elimination you can figure out which is which of the ones you don't recognize. Or else you could just ask me! AFF
