HAND SHIFTING

hELLO, i SAW IN the Seymour Fink DVD that somethimes he advocates the hand to go sideways ,like if playing a chord which the top notes are white and the thumb plays on a black key, then shifting the hand towards the thumb due to fact it is a shorter finger...what do you think? -by my understanding from your dvds, when it comes to play forte it has nothing to do with weight but it is all about the activity of the hand and fingers,so what is the purppose of a low wrist and a high one? Thanks a lot

I agree with Seymour about the hand shifting idea. About low wrist and high wrist: practically speaking, the louder the sound, the higher the wrist. A high wrist facilitates the transmission of forces from higher up the skeleton. When you play softly, you don't need this so much. Remember, it's NOT the transmission of weight, but of skeletal force vectors. AFF
