hello! ive never done this so lets see if it works! the problem: tingles in rh fingers and some on the lh 5th finger down to the wrist. this only happens when i play F or FF chords, large chords or large streches with notes in the middle. more recently a very small stream of pain from the rh under the wrist and to the elbow joint. a good friend said i was rasing my shoulders too. so im trying to be conciouse of that now too!! i first noticed teh rh finger tingles when i was working on the thrid movement of op26 of beethiven. after i played the piece i went to see a chiopract person and he said i was in stage one of spinale digeneration (this may have been caused due to my eyesight problems i have). ive been playing for about 11 years and not had real formal instruction. when i started i read books listoned music and in my spare time learned the music. after i learned how the read notes in genrale on the treble and bass cleves i learnt the major and minor key signatures! the first few pieces i leanrt was fuer elise and the adagio from the op27 no 2 of beethoven. i had some guidance but nothing real formal. well just in the past few years i started looking for a good teacher (still looking). im currently confused about my abillity and what i can play and how fast i can play. i want learn real technique and have constant guidance on it...not just go and see your teacher for 30, 45mins, or an hour a week and best of luck to you during the week. i dont know how many times i dont do something cause im in pain or im in doubt! with not having a teacher when i needed one when i first started i greatly think that im paying for all the years of whatever i used if you can even call it technique to get me by! ive got one person that says this piece is too hard for you and this piece is too easy for you and another that says just the opposite! my secondon teacher i had told me from day one: you have great musicallity but no technique. it took her 6 months to start teaching me technique. i quite that week she started to work on it. it shoudlne take a teacher 6 months to start on some form of technique! the works im currently studying are: the tempest op31 no2 of beethoven, op 27 no1 of chopin a nocturn, a prelude op2 no3 of rachmanninov and op 19 no 4 of mendelssohn. im also trying to work on scale volacity and its getting nowhere. i think ive got everything all mix up when comes to relaxation and brilliant scale playing! i might be using to much arm or torso to do scales which obviously dont work! my current teacher says dont worry about scales. i dont get it!!!.......i just dont get it! what do i do!!??....i cant give up...im too invalved now. i have other pices bigger ones i wanna learn. God didnt put me on the earth to do nothing! and if im wrong .....whats new! help please! musician ps is it realy bad the crack the knuckles?? i dont want arthites knocking on my door too soon!!

Hello, welcome to the forum! About your tingly fingers - I can say only two things: 1) read my book and watch my DVD. It is very possible that the tingling is from some structuro-functional anomaly but it is impossible to tell from what you have written. You would have to go through my whole approach, discover what skeletal piano playing is, to find out if the tingling is a result of your technique rather than spinal degeneration. 2) The other thing to do is see a qualified medical specialist which I would certainly recommend... Good luck! AFF PS Perhaps you could type your posts into a Word document and then use spellcheck, because as it stands your spelling is really incomparable!

I've just read your post and the thing you should be doing now is seeing a phisotherapist. This sounds serious as I can identify with some of these symptoms. Please read my post under the heading TOSS. Andrew

I would only add to the above 1) See a physiotherapist or a Feldenkrais practitioner who will not only address the problem but start to give you a way of being physically that will help the problem not return. 2) And do take a look at my materials, because chances are good that HOW you are doing what you do led to the problem, and you ARE going to have to change how you do things if you want the problem to go away and stay away... Good luck and keep us posted, spell check or no! AFF
