Question From A Beginner

Hello, I'm a beginner piano player. I live in a small rural town, and I started my piano lessons with a teacher who instructed me in Russian piano technique. After 6 months, he had to drop out, because of a life disaster of his. I tried to find another piano teacher, but discovered that the teachers in my area all only know the traditional, European style of playing, which I would prefer to avoid, based on my understanding that it's hard on your body. I would like to buy, "The Craft of Piano PLaying." My question is, is that, or any other product created by Alan Fraser, a good way for a beginner to learn to play -- particularly if that beginner does not have a teacher. In my 6 months of instruction I learned quite a bit -- my teacher told me I learned faster than any student he'd ever had, and he'd been teaching for 15 years. So, I covered a lot of basics with him. But I am still a beginner and a clumsy player, and not all that confident about going on without a teacher at such an early stage. And yet, I really don't want to learn the technique that the teachers in my area teach. I am HOPING that the DVD will be the answer for me. Does that seem realistic? TO use the DVD without a teacher? If not, do you have any other recommendations for how to proceed? Sincerely, Mana

Although many professors advise not to use my DVD and books without supervision, I have responses from many pianists both advanced and beginning, that they have been greatly helped by my materials. In your situation I would say yes, go ahead and use my materials... they should help keep you on a good path. Good luck and let us know how it works out! AFF
