HELLO ALAN, A really important question i still dont get after massive reading about the topic-the volume of the playing is determined by the velocity the fingers hitting the keys, but is it just that or is there another component of adding a bit of force into playing loudly? for example-playing a scale pp presto feels different in the entire arm, than playing the same scale presto as well but ff....it feels like there is an additinal force from the muscles and not just how quickly the fingers strike the keys. so what exactly is it when playing ff or f? the velocity of the fingers hitting the keys, the adding of the force from the muscles, combination of the two or is there something Im missing? thank you

You may be feeling additional force from the arms in muscles that participate in moving the finger or muscles that stabilize the arm while the fingers sound the notes. As long as this force in the arm is not compressive, you will be fine. If it becomes compressive, it inhibits the free movement of the fingers. AFF
