Do Your LH And RH Both Feel The Same?

Hi there I discovered that my right hand had already developed pretty well having been through the craft of piano techniqes and noticing that when I was doing things well already it was articulated on the dvd that I was already skeletal in the RH. My LH is a late developer due to my childhood developement in techinque of chords on the organ. Its taken time to catch up and its not quite as good as the RH yet. My teacher used to say that it looked like I had 2 different hands - like one from a different pair - and it certainly feels different although getting better. Its actually a wonderful thing to see the dvd and get my RH to quickly assimilate the techniqes or reaffirm them and then let it teach the LH when I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong in the LH. Because I know how it feels in the RH - I just have to mirror the feeling in the LH. However I was wondering is it a common thing for one hand to be more "natural" than the other? Did you ever get 2 well developed hands that are the same if so? Cheers

Hi We are either left or right minded except for a few which have both and I think every pianist experience the weakness of the left hand (or right hand). When I started with the DVD I found out that it was in a way easier to educate my weaker left the bad habits of my more developed right was much harder to get rid of. My guess is that the disposition left/right is neurological you won't get rid of it but it is possible to play the piano as if there were no difference. Eric

My left hand is much worse than my right in terms of doing everything I am telling you guys to do... But when I really focus in on it, it still learns pretty well... AFF

Hi Eric Yes I can see where you are coming from about the LH learning new techniques. Neurologically speaking - I'm ambidextrous in many things not just my hands - sports (hands and feet) , eating with the knife in LH and RH to cut meats, writing LH and RH and Ive developed the "left" side of my brain too to a certain extent as I'm an IT consultant and used to be a programmer. So I would think I should do better!

When I started my Feldenkrais training over 20 years ago I noticed that my two sides were 'dysfunctional' in completely different ways. My right hand and whole right side was stiff from stress and overuse - or rather misuse, whereas the left was stiff in a more dead, inert way - from a kind of underuse. I used similar procedures to improve both sides, but the procedures didn't FEEL the same because of the radically different starting points for each side. AFF
