Activity Of The Fingers

HELLO ALAN, I wanted to thank you for your videos and answers they are extremely helpfull! I saw in one of the videos about the octaves playing-you suggested that there should be some activity of the fingers, demonstrating a slight grasping motion. If I am trying to do this grasping motion on every single octave (playing many of them in a row at high level speed),my wrist gets stuck. I am assuming i didnt understand the concept very well or Im doing something wrong.... -another technical question-when lowering the wrist slightly beneath the mcp joint there is a greater sense of strenth and control of the fingers than when the wrist is on the same hight of the fingers or slightly higher (hope i explained it clearly),i was wondering why is that? thank you so much!

The faster yo play octaves, the less you actually DO the finger flexion. It becomes more of an internal orientation, a tonus, an intention. If you actually do the curling movement too much, of course your wrist will freeze. It is trying to reestablish the stability you lost by over-moving at high speed. About your second question: look at the angles. It's obvious that a lower wrist is going to increase the angle of finger flexion and thus the power expressed by that flexion. AFF
