A Pianist
Hi,
I've read Effortless Mastery and much of my musicians friends as well. It is a very famous book in the jazz music world. Although Kenny Werner writes about improvisation, the principles and concept developed in the book are fully adaptable to a classical practice. It is based on the observation of the inner self and fear-based playing, which Kenny Werner describes as being the cause of all tensions, frustrations and bad practice. He develops topics such as fear-based practicing, which I find very interesting, and guides the musician to find his own voice, no matter what he play.
It also includes a CD with meditation exercises, very simple but effective if our music routine or playing is polluted by fear. One quote of the book" Every note I play is the most beautiful sound I ever heard".
A book I recommend to any musicians which sense that fear takes more or less control in his music.
