Another phenomenal pianist. This seems to me another example of arm-weight properly understood. Annie Fischer, Rubinstein, Godowsky and Arrau would be the others that come to mind Great pianists make things look simple because they understand precisely how the music and the musical are constructed. Katchen makes it look especially simple. Wanderer Fantasy Part 1 Part 2 Any thoughts?

Another phenomenal pianist. This seems to me another example of arm-weight properly understood. Annie Fischer, Rubinstein, Godowsky and Arrau would be the others that come to mind Great pianists make things look simple because they understand precisely how the music and the musical I agree with you especially concerning Annie Fischer - an amazing pianist and an amazingly high expression of the arm weight technique. But here I cannot agree. Katchen makes it look simple but use your ears for God's sake: the musical results are also simplistic. And the visual and aural totally align. We need go no further than the opening phrases: He uses a downward wrist movement to play each and every chordal eighth note. And what do we get as a result? Eighth notes that are pounded out equally with no sense of phrase. Now don't tell me you can't hear that. AFF
