A Pianist
Hi, I am studying piano technique seriously for the first time, although I am not a beginner musician....I have been a rock-metal guitarist for many years and I am very keen on great technique and musicianship.
However, for the past 6 years I became very fond about learning harmony and composition,so I ditched the guitar, bought several Conservatory's books about harmony, and dug in as a self-taugh student. Until now the keyboard was to me just a composing tool. But damn, I learned Mozart's 'Alla Turca' 4 years ago and i KNOW i am applying the wrong body mechanics. It feels like I am doing bricklaying ,not playing the piano!
I was really pleased to see the online demo of Alan Fraser's DVD and I proceeded to buy both books and DVD's immediately. I was impressed by the passion for the detail and of course,I was mind-blowed by the musical excerpts.....
I am already studying the book and DVD by Seymour Fink, which, until now, I thought was the best DVD i could find on the subject of efficient, correct, apparently effortless technique.
As an ex-rock guitarist,I used to play the Flight of the Bumble Bee on guitar.....and the truth is,you can't be a great performer unless your technique is as effortless as possible.
By the way,I commend Mr. Fraser for being such an excellent teacher.
I love the 'ultra-detailed' approach. These teachers who say 'do this and do that' without researching and revealing the inner mechanics, aren't for me.
Can't wait to get both books and DVD. I think I'll eat them.
And this looks like a great forum. Hopefully I'll learn a lot from the more experienced pianists here.
A forum about the techniques of composition, harmony, etc, would be great too,I think, although I am well aware that performing and composing are two different things:)
