2nd Edition Study Guide Same As The Old?

I just bought the 2nd Edition of the Craft of Piano playing off of amazon. I am planning on getting the dvd, and noticed I could get a study guide too. Is this study guide for the 2nd Edition? Or will it work for the 2nd Edition even if it wasn't made specifically for it? I'm very excited for the book to arrive. The few videos I've watched have made me realize how I do a lot of things so much more complicated than needed. Edit: Nevermind, found the description page and it looks like the answer is a yes. I'll be getting both those too me thinks.

Some of the chapter references in the Study Guide will be slightly inaccurate: the first edition had 67 chapters, the second has 72. Apart from that there should be no further discrepancies and the Guide can indeed be used with the 2nd Edition. But thanks for bringing that up, I think I will put a chapter concordance chart somewhere on the CraftofPiano site that should clarify things... Another chore, sigh.... All best, AFF

I just want to say thanks for a great book. I got it a lot faster than the DVD and study guide (bought it from amazon, other stuff is still coming from serbia) and I've already read half of it. I already feel a higher level of control in my playing and it's amazing. I see so much more room for improvement that I didn't know existed before. I've also just realized there's a feldenkrais group about 1.5 hours away, I'll definitely be investigating that.

Thanks for your kind words. I am always happy when I can "help someone from afar!" At the risk of sounding commercial, it sounds like you may well eventually be ready for my second book, . One more thing: the dates for this summer's Piano Institutes are now finalized: please see the Smith College or Salt Lake City websites for details. Thanks once again, I hope your 2012 is pianistically brilliant! AFF

My face right now: + <mouth hanging open smiley> I'm right in the middle of studying the octave chapter and I decided to practice Rachmaninoff Prelude 23 no 5 which I've been struggling with for a few months (only off and on due to too much struggling and too little reward).. and wow, it's just amazing. After following along with the video and doing the exercises you demonstrated.. applying those to the rach prelude just made so many things fall in to place.. so much falling I began to wonder about the ceiling's integrity. I couldn't play more than 5 measures at a time because my brain was in shock at how easy and good what I was doing sounded (relative to what I was doing before that is..). Then I played a bit of reverie (part right near the beginning with octaves) and that too is way easier that it ever has been. It's like I just walked for the first time after spending my life crawling. Thank you so much for this great book and dvd!!

I really do love to hear of successes like this. Bravo! I am so glad you could figure things out, and help yourself out big time, by reading my stuff. Onward and upward! AFF
